You're brilliant at what you do
TL;DR: I’m running a free online session called Unearth Your Story. You can register here.
For the most part, I’m one of those marketers who’s really great at telling other peoples stories, and really bad at telling my own.
In fact, here’s a perfect example. Last week I received an email to say a book that I was interviewed for had been published. I’m quoted in this book, as an expert, and I haven’t mentioned it once.
It’s a personal (and career) milestone for me, I should really be shouting about it from the rooftops. Which I will…soon.
It comes up in coaching conversations. When we dig into what makes someone unique, normally the most incredible story and achievement is hiding away. Sometimes because people don’t think it’s that big of a deal (it normally is a huge deal) and other times, they don’t think they should be talking about it (you know, because we’re told to be humble).
The comparison curse is a big blocker as well. Thinking your achievements and stories aren’t as worthy (or big) as someone else’s.
I’ve seen an increase in posts on social media about it too. People with, often decades of, experience not being able to articulate their strengths, stories or value.
When I wrote about imposter syndrome recently, it really resonated with people. And I’ve been pondering if this sudden focus on self worth is tied to all the headlines about AI “being able to do you job”. I kind of suspect that it does.
So why is it so hard to tell our stories about what makes us so brilliant? Probably because we’re not taught how to, in fact, in years gone past it was actively discouraged.
I’ve decided to do something about it. On the 16th July, I’m hosting a free 45-minute session called Unearth Your Story. We’re we’ll start digging to help you uncover yours. Here’s the link for all the details, and to save your spot.
After pivoting my career a few years ago, I’ve had more time to reflect on what I achieved in the first 25 years of my career (and life).
And in Unearth Your Story, I’m going to share the tools I’ve been using to dig into mine and some of those stories as well. The aim is to help inspire you to own your achievements and bring to light what makes you, you.
You don’t have to be a marketer to attend, it’s open to anyone. Spaces will be limited though.
This session isn’t about building a personal brand (it could be if that’s what you’re looking to do), it’s about:
building confidence
identifying your strengths
highlighting the stories that make you unique
and so much more
It really is for anyone. Once you unearth your story, it can be used in so many ways:
Overcoming imposter syndrome
narrative for job interviews
building back self belief and self confidence
giving you a boost of courage
bouncing back from redundancy
highlighting what you’re capable of
remembering who you are, and why you’re brilliant
A bit of a spoiler - you’ve got more than one story to tell (so it’s also a bit of a FU to those people to tell you to be “just one thing”).
Details are:
Date: 16th July 2026
Time: 7pm AEST (10am BST)
Where: Online
Cost: Free
It’s not just for Australian’s either, you can join from anywhere.
It’ll be fun, I’m really looking forward to it.
Here’s a little music to get the vibe going.
